Operation Chastise - Hoodie Tornado F3 The Gannet first flew inOperation Chastise Dambusters Raid On the 16 17th May 1943, 617 Squadron carried out an attack on the Rhur Dams using the famous bouncing bomb. Squadron X from No. 5 Group RAF became 617 under the command of Wing Commander Guy Gibson with crews made up of many nationalities including the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
