Carved Bone Northwest Coast Native Totem Pole Letter Opener badger It is emblematic of paintingsI believe this vintage Native American (Northwest Coast or Alaskan) carved bone letter opener dates to the 1930s or 1940s, and would have been a tourist souvenir. I really love it as an object, with two carved and painted figures comprising the totem pole at one end (I believe an owl at the top, with those terrific ears, and perhaps a frog below), and then unpainted bone blade at the other.
