By the spring of 1865, the Medical Departments established efficient systems to deal with fallen soldiers. As a result, casualty survival improved during the last campaign. In this study, we have brought together numerous primary source accounts and documents of how both the Army of the Potomac and the Army of the James followed these improved practices during the final campaign of the war
