I have not tried to polish it

it seems to nod to old salt glazed jugs

which is more typically the case

but I'm pretty certain that they're actually meant to represent soldiers

(Or a great gift for a 13 year old.) The black numbers against the old creamy white paint are to my eye pure gorgeousness, all the better set against this great dark red. And the lifting the front latch up loosens the lid, which opens no problem, and closes tightly and flush. Yum. 9 3 8" tall x
