I think the black and white stripes and swirl patterns of the inlaid glass are fantastic (it feels as if that glass was just destined to become this bat) and then that face
into which all of the components neatly fit

I've done some digging and have found a few Ebenezer Averill's from these parts from the 18th and 19th centuries, but have not found any citations of a Boxworks, so am not quite sure of the age of this piece, though I might guess late 19th early 20th c. I'm also not quite sure what is was made for perhaps for spools of thread and thimbles? It
